Instability and nonexistence theorems for $F$-harmonic maps

Abstract

In this paper we study the unstability and nonexistence of $F$-harmonic maps. We introduce the notion of $F$-strongly unstable and $F$-unstable manifolds and discuss properties of such manifolds. We classify all compact irreducible $F$-unstable symmetric spaces.
