Some Uses of Quasi-Ranges

Abstract

Confidence intervals for, and tests of hypotheses about, the interquantile distance are obtained, using one or two properly chosen quasi-ranges. Consistency (of the estimates and tests) is proved. Applications are also given to making inferences about the standard deviations of distributions whose cdf's are of the form $F((x - \mu)/\lambda)$.
